I saw Joey on the Facebook news feed from Second Chance Rescue NY, a super cute dog that had a prosthetic and he was up for adoption. Apparently he was up for adoption for almost a year and this was the first time I had seen him. We applied and got approved. We had to wait 3 months to bring him home due to a surgery, healing time, and to be molded for the new prosthetic. His Foster Mom, Regina Mendoza, did a excellent Job rehabilitating him since he was a puppy. Thank you Regina!!
Merrick Pet Care Gave Joey a gift of food, medical care, rehabilitation and his prosthetics. We at Joey’s P.A.W. hope that we can give back to many, many dogs the gift of Prosthetics or a Wheelchair as Merrick Per Care did for Joey.
Finally we went to get him in NY and October 23, 2016. We made the 8 hour trip home and he just fit right in the other siblings.
2017 was a tough year for Joey’s right nub. He had a 2.5 month infection that started from a tiny scratch that ended in a femoral amputation for his right nub. He went to see Dr. Gretchen Meyers from Banfield Pet Hospital in Cranberry Twp. Pennsylvania, almost every other day for the 2.5 months. Thank you for being such an amazing Vet who loves animals and it truly shows!
Dr. Jones at Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital did a excellent job with the femoral amputation and it had no issues or infections which was critical that he didn’t get.
April 22 was a huge day for Joey. I touched his nub for the first time since the femoral amputation without him flinching at all (He had such a issue with everyone touching it). That was HUGE!
He sees Laura At Twinbrook Animal Clinic in Valencia for Physical Therapy and he loves to swim! We went to see Derrick from Animal Orthocare in Virginia to get a new prosthetic for his left rear leg. Thank you Derrick for making him an AMAZING new prosthetic! He is now a happier, healthier, smiling dog that is just amazing! He is THE happiest dog in our house. He’s such a joy and we are unbelievably blessed to be able to take care of him!
